Indonesian Speech Contest and Indonesian Song Singing Contest – Glorifying the Beauty of Indonesian Culture and Language

(VOVWORLD) – Exciting, enthusiastic and exciting are the words that can be said about the final round of the “Indonesian Speech Contest and Singing Competition” which took place on August 22 at the Hall of the Faculty of Literature, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City National University. This was an opportunity for the contestants to show off their oratory talents, argumentation skills and passion for the Indonesian language and culture.

Launched more than a month earlier, the “Speech Contest and Indonesian Singing Contest” organized by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in coordination with the Consulate General of Indonesia in Ho Chi Minh City has attracted the participation of many young people in the city. They are Indonesian language students and alumni, tour guides, or simply Indonesian language lovers. After the qualifying round, the Organizing Committee has selected 21 outstanding contestants among nearly 50 contestants in both speech and singing to compete in the final round.

More than just a competition, the event has created a space that is thick with Indonesian culture. The contestants appeared radiant in traditional Indonesian costumes, confidently giving speeches and singing Indonesian songs, receiving enthusiastic cheers from the audience. Doctor Ngo Thi Phuong Lan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, shared the meaning of this competition:

In the speech contest, the 10 finalists helped the audience better understand every aspect of the current Indonesia-Vietnam relationship through the following topics: 70 years of Indonesia-Vietnam relations, Strengthening the Indonesia-Vietnam strategic partnership, The role of the younger generation in fostering Indonesia-Vietnam relations, The important role of Indonesia and Vietnam in ASEAN, and so on. Each speech brought different colors and topics, but one thing that was easily seen was the careful preparation of the contestants, from their attire to the content of the presentation and the picture slides.

Choosing the presentation topic “Opportunities and challenges in educational cooperation between Indonesia and Vietnam”, contestant Tran Thi Kieu Trinh, an alumna of the Indonesian Language Department, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, has won a convincing victory with her fluent Indonesian language and sharp arguments. In particular, she has skillfully shared her personal story about the experience of receiving the Darmasiswa in 2023 to clearly prove the benefits provided by educational cooperation:

Wearing a traditional Indonesian Batik skirt, Tran Minh Hieu, a 3rd year student of the Indonesian Language Department, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, became very beautiful and radiant on stage.

Her soft, emotional voice and good interaction with the audience have won applause from the Jury and guests. With the excellence of her voice, energy and confident style when singing two songs “Laskar Pelangi” and “Dunia Tipu-Tipu”, Minh Hieu has prominently surpassed 10 other contestants to become the champion of the singing competition.

“Speech Contest and Indonesian Song Singing Contest” were held in connection with the commemoration of the 79th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia (17/8/1945 – 17/8/2024), welcoming the event of Indonesian language being officially recognized by UNESCO as the international language of this organization at the end of 2023, and the commemoration of the 31st Anniversary of the establishment of the Indonesian Language Department, University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
