CELEBRATION OF 70 YEARS OF VIỆT NAM – INDONESIA DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS

JAKARTA – The Ministry of Finance, The Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Indonesia, in collaboration with the Indonesia-Viet Nam Friendship Association (IVFA) and Ciputra Group, proudly hosted a High-Level Business Dialogue to commemorate 70 years of Viet Nam–Indonesia diplomatic relations. With the theme “Viet Nam and Indonesia: A Partnership for Progress and Prosperity,” the event took place on March 10, 2025, at Raffles Hotel Jakarta, within the visit of H.E. Mr. To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, and his spouse, Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly, at the invitation of the Indonesian President H.E. Prabowo Subianto.

Bringing together top government officials, business leaders, and key stakeholders from both nations, the dialogue highlighted economic collaboration, investment opportunities, and strategic partnerships across emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, the digital economy, green energy, electric vehicles, and the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP). Discussions also explored food security, the Halal industry, education, and maritime cooperation, reflecting the countries’ deepening ties.

Economic relations between Viet Nam and Indonesia have flourished, with bilateral trade reaching an estimated US$16 billion in 2024—a 16% increase year-on-year—placing both nations ahead of their US$18 billion target for 2028. Vietnamese investment in Indonesia also saw significant growth, including VinFast’s electric vehicle ecosystem expansion, with a new factory in Subang and the launch of Xanh SM’s electric taxi service.

Speaking at the Dialogue, H.E. Mr. To Lam appreciated the tightening investment and trade cooperation between Vietnam and Indonesia in recent years, simultaneously hoped to receive the continuing companionship and support of the Indonesian Government, the authorities and business communities in the coming time.

The General Secretary also expected that two countries’ enterprises will further explore opportunities and expand investment in the fields of: (1) science and technology, innovation, research and development; (2) semiconductor, chip manufacturing, AI, IOT; (3) new energy (such as hydrogen), renewable energy; (4) finance, financial centers; (5) healthcare, bio-tech, etc. These sectors of both Viet Nam and Indonesia have great potential and prioritize investment.

Since establishing diplomatic ties in 1955, the Viet Nam – Indonesia partnership has evolved into a Strategic Partnership (2013), reinforced by high-level state visits and continued economic and political collaboration. This dialogue reaffirmed both nations’ commitment to fostering sustainable growth, innovation, and regional cooperation, setting the stage for an even stronger future together.
