Vietnam and Indonesia Strengthen Security Cooperation

(VOVWORLD) – The Vietnam Ministry of Public Security hosted the 3rd Deputy Ministerial-Level Security Dialogue Conference between the Vietnam Ministry of Public Security and the Indonesian National Police on Monday morning (May 20). Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang and Deputy Chief of the Indonesian National Police, Commissioner General Agus Andrianto co-chaired the dialogue.

In this dialogue, the two sides discussed the contents of cooperation on prevention, eradication of drug crimes, human trafficking, terrorism, cyber security, cooperation on education of Vietnamese officers participating in United Nations peacekeeping forces, and other issues of common interest.

Both sides emphasized that the dialogue aims to solve security challenges inside and outside the Southeast Asian region in general and in the two countries in particular. The results of the dialogue create motivation to further push the cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Indonesian National Police to a new level.

Vietnam, Indonesia Strengthen Press Cooperation to Boost Bilateral Relations

(VOVWORLD) – On Monday afternoon (April 22), the Vietnam Journalists Association held talks in Hanoi with a delegation from the Indonesian Journalists Association in connection with their working visit to Vietnam from April 21 to 27, 2024 to strengthen close ties between press circles as well as cooperation and friendship between Vietnam and Indonesia.

Leading the talks, Nguyen Duc Loi, Deputy Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association, said that Vietnam and Indonesia are two important countries in ASEAN, among which the press plays a role as a bridge of information, promoting relations between the two countries, two nations. He also believes that the visit of the Indonesian Journalists Association this time is an opportunity for both parties to discuss solutions and ways to further strengthen the cooperative relations between the press of the two countries.

There are many Vietnamese-Indonesian news agencies that have established cooperative relationships, for example the Vietnam News Agency and Antara News Agency, between Radio Suara Vietnam (VOV) and Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI). Strengthening the provision of information by the press about the situation of the two countries will help the public understand more clearly about the two countries, through which it also strengthens the attention and understanding of each other between the public of the two countries.

Informing briefly across the Union, Mr. Nguyen Duc Loi said, Vietnam Journalists Union is the only social, political, vocational organization of Vietnamese journalists with more than 25,000 members. Currently in the field of foreign relations, the Association has relations with many press organizations and press associations not only in Southeast Asian countries but also in a number of countries in the world.
In the discussion, Mr. Sihono, Director of Pancasila Press of the Indonesian Journalists Association in the Yogyakarta region, head of the delegation of the Indonesian Journalists Association expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome from the Vietnam Journalists Association. After visiting the Vietnam Press Museum, he said he was very impressed with the history of the Vietnamese press and the scale of the museum:

In the working meeting, the Vietnam Journalists Association and the Indonesian Journalists Association have discussed very openly about many issues of common interest, including press freedom, various challenges and opportunities for the press in the digital media environment, the use of social media, the application of artificial intelligence in press and media activities. From there, effective experiences and solutions in the new context emerged, further strengthening mutual understanding, opening up opportunities for future cooperation.

At the end of the talks, the envoys put forward the same view that it is necessary to further strengthen the friendly relations and cooperation between the press of the two countries in the future. Among them, paying attention to continuing to further intensify the dispatch of press working groups to exchange vocations between the two journalist associations; creating conditions for the mass media and foreign news agencies of the two countries to publish news about the two countries.

The state visit of Indonesian President Joko Widodo to Vietnam on January 12 – 13, 2024

During the state visit of Indonesian President Joko Widodo to Vietnam on January 12–13, 2024, Mr. Budiarsa Sastrawinata, Chairman of the Indonesia-Vietnam Friendship Association and Managing Director of Ciputra Group, accompanied him in meetings and business discussions. Ciputra Group has developed CIPUTRA HANOI International City, spanning 301 hectares and featuring residential buildings, schools, parks, a clubhouse, retail areas, a luxury hotel, and high-rise office buildings, all designed to enhance the quality of life for an anticipated population of 50,000 residents.

During the visit, President Widodo emphasized the strong economic and trade ties with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. Indonesia is now Vietnam’s third-largest trade partner, while Vietnam ranks as Indonesia’s fourth-largest partner in ASEAN. One of the visit’s key goals is to boost bilateral trade turnover to USD 15 billion in the near term and reach USD 18 billion by 2028. The high-level dialogue between the two leaders addressed business concerns, economic development policies, investment cooperation, and future trends.

Both leaders shared a vision of their nations achieving high-income status by 2045. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomed Indonesian businesses to Vietnam, urging investments in emerging sectors. Vietnam committed to providing favorable conditions for stable, long-term business, with an emphasis on open policies, infrastructure improvements, and the protection of business rights.

Vietnam MN Chairman Tran Thanh Man Receives Deputy Chairman of DPD RI Mahyudin

(VOVWORLD) – On Wednesday afternoon (June 12), in Hanoi, Vietnam’s National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man received Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Regional Representative Council (DPD RI), Mahyudin.

At the meeting, MN Chairman Tran Thanh Man emphasized that the friendly relations between Vietnam and Indonesia have continuously developed positively, Vietnam always appreciates and wants the Vietnam-Indonesia strategic partnership to be raised to a new level. MN Chairman Tran Thanh Man appreciated the cooperation, sharing of experiences, and the creation of a legal umbrella between the two legislative bodies of the two countries so far. In the multilateral framework, the two parties have always supported each other in international and regional inter-parliamentary forums.

When agreeing with the opinion of MN Chairman Tran Thanh Man to realize the bilateral trade value reaching 18 billion USD in 2028, the Deputy Chairman of the DPD RI Indonesia also considered that this was a target that high-level leaders of the two countries wanted to achieve. Therefore, the two parties need to concretize all targets to increase competitiveness in the region, including the digital economy, green economy, renewable energy which are the needs of both countries, creating the best legal umbrella for business entities of the two countries to develop together.

NA Chairman receives Indonesia – Việt Nam Friendship Association President in Jakarta

JAKARTA – National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vương Đình Huệ applauded the Indonesia – Việt Nam Friendship Association for its contribution to enhancing people-to-people exchange and promoting business, and investment cooperation between the two countries during his reception for the association’s President Budiarsa Sastrawinata in Jakarta on Saturday as part of his official visit to Indonesia.The Vietnamese NA Chairman highly appreciated his guest’s initiative in establishing the association, with core members being entrepreneurs running investment and business projects in Việt Nam.

Budiarsa Sastrawinata said that established in 2015, the association aims to consolidate and enhance the friendship between the two countries, including promoting people-to-people exchange and cooperation in various fields.

Thanking Huệ for his support to the enhancement of the two countries’ ties, Budiarsa Sastrawinata delivered proposals of his association’s members relating to production and business activities in Vietnam, including projects on green production, environmental protection, production of vaccines against poultry diseases, cooperation in oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, universities, and the opening of a photo exhibition in Hà Nội.

NA Chairman Huệ emphasised that Việt Nam and Indonesia boast the long-standing traditional friendship and Việt Nam wishes to promote relations with Indonesia across all channels of the Party, National Assembly, Government, and people-to-people exchange.

Huệ said he hopes the Indonesia – Việt Nam Friendship Association will have more and more members, while suggesting the association organise a people-to-people diplomacy event this year when the two countries celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of their strategic partnership.

National Assembly Chairman arrives in Jakarta

National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue arrived in Jakarta on August 4 morning, beginning his official visit to Indonesia where he will also attend the 44th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-44).

This is the first by Hue as Chairman of the NA and also the first by a top legislator of Vietnam to Indonesia after 13 years, following the one by NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong in 2010. It takes place in the context that the two countries are celebrating the 10th anniversary of their strategic partnership.

It also aims to continue implementing the 13th National Party Congress’s foreign policy, actively consolidate and expand the political relationship between the two countries, and promote bilateral effective and practical cooperation in all fields, and via the Party, National Assembly, Government and people’s diplomacy channels, thus contributing to enhancing political trust.

Vietnam-Indonesia Friendship Association and Indonesia-Vietnam Friendship Association Strengthen Cooperation

(VOVWORLD) – On Tuesday morning (January 17), at the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) office in Hanoi, Tran Minh Hung, Deputy Director General of Voice of Vietnam and Chairman of the Vietnam-Indonesia Friendship Association (VIFA), received Budiarsa Sastrawinata, Chairman of the Indonesia-Vietnam Friendship Association (IVFA) who was visiting Vietnam.

At the meeting, Chairman Tran Minh Hung said that currently in addition to the Vietnam-Indonesia Friendship Association at the central level, there are also several associations at the regional level. There are 4 provinces in Vietnam that have signed the MoU and tied the bonds of brotherhood with 4 provinces in Indonesia. Tran Minh Hung, Deputy Director General of Radio Suara Vietnam, Chairman of the Vietnam-Indonesia Friendship Association emphasized:

“In 2023, we aim to further promote cooperation between regions in both countries. After the 2023 Chinese New Year, we will conduct working visits to several Vietnamese provinces that cooperate with Indonesia to establish regional branch associations and promote bilateral cooperation. It is planned that in mid-2023, we will coordinate with the Indonesian Embassy in Vietnam to hold a workshop to strengthen economic, cultural, and tourism cooperation between the two countries.”

On his part, IVFA Chairman Budiarsa Sastrawinata wants the two countries to encourage economic cooperation; asking the two parties to strengthen cooperation in the fields of culture, sports, and tourism.

The two parties agreed to coordinate to realize the target agreed by the leaders of the two countries, namely to immediately bring the bilateral trade value to 15 billion USD and higher by 2028.

Vietnam, Indonesia seek to reach $15 billion in trade by 2028: Foreign ministers

JAKARTA — Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Bùi Thanh Sơn and Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi on Wednesday co-chaired the fourth meeting of the Joint Committee on Bilateral Cooperation held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Welcoming Sơn to the country, the Indonesian foreign minister said the visit is significant especially as the two countries have reopened following COVID-19 restrictions, which provides an opportunity to exchange measures to promote cooperation in all fields, jointly recover and promote socio-economic growth, for the benefit and interests of the two peoples, towards the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Việt Nam-Indonesia Strategic Partnership (2013-23).

Foreign minister Sơn said the holding of the bilateral cooperation meeting serves as a strong indication for the two sides to advance ties.

Sơn congratulated Indonesia for its achievements in pandemic containment and socio-economic development and expressed confidence that the country will succeed in its role as President of G20.

He also pledged Việt Nam’s support for Indonesia when it holds the Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2023.

The two sides agreed on the assessment that the relationship between Việt Nam and Indonesia is deepening effectively, especially since the establishment of the strategic partnership in 2013. Despite COVID-19 impacts, the two sides flexibly maintained high-level contacts and exchanges, both face-to-face and online, contributing to increasing trust and political ties.

Economic and trade cooperation has grown tremendously, with two-way trade in 2021 reaching US$11.5 billion, up 40 per cent compared to 2020 and exceeding the target of $10 billion set by the two sides in the action programme to implement the strategic partnership for the period of 2019-23. In the first six months of 2022, bilateral trade reached $6.9 billion, up 24 per cent over the same period in 2021.

Security-defence cooperation is also a highlight in bilateral ties. The Joint Vision Statement on Defence Cooperation for the period 2017-22 has been well implemented and cooperation mechanisms between the two defence ministries are regularly maintained, and the two sides also pledged to further cooperate in information sharing and coordinate in the fight against transnational crimes such as terrorism, drugs, illegal wildlife trade and transportation, and high-tech crimes.

Cooperation in other important fields such as agriculture, fisheries, energy, aviation, culture, education training and tourism are given due attention, contributing to deepening friendly relations and cooperation between Việt Nam and Indonesia.

In order to promote comprehensive cooperation in the future, the two sides agreed to continue to coordinate to strengthen exchanges and contacts at all levels; maintain the effectiveness of existing cooperation mechanisms; encourage the resumption of art troupes and people-to-people exchanges, especially in 2023 when the two countries celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of a strategic partnership.

To realise the goal of two-way trade reaching $15 billion in 2028, an agreement was reached to soon organise the 8th meeting of the Joint Committee on Trade and Science and Technology, create favourable conditions for enterprises of the two countries to do business, conduct import and export activities; seek opportunities to expand and diversify investment, especially in potential fields such as fisheries, infrastructure construction, renewable energy, and digital transformation.

Minister Sơn said that they need to work together to handle the risk of a global food crisis, and suggested that Indonesia limit the application of trade remedies to Vietnamese exports; soon sign a memorandum of understanding on bilateral trade cooperation in the field of rice for the next four years; at the same time providing technical support for and facilitating the imports of Halal products of Vietnamese origin into Indonesia.

The two ministers also agreed to encourage airlines to increase flight frequency and consider opening new routes connecting tourist destinations between the two countries, advance cooperation to enhance understanding, cultural exchange, trade and tourism between the two countries’ localities, especially sister localities, along with student exchange.

Discussing regional and international issues of mutual concern, the diplomats highly appreciated the coordination at multilateral organisations and forums, contributing to strengthening solidarity and the central role of ASEAN, the maintenance of peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region as well as in the world.

They agreed to continue boosting coordination and mutual support within the framework of ASEAN, the United Nations and other regional and international mechanisms.

Việt Nam and Indonesia also reaffirmed their support for the upholding of ASEAN’s unity and agreed-upon principles in the South China Sea issue, in accordance with international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). — VNS

Friendship Association Sets to Tighten Vietnam – Indonesia ties

Stepping up co-operation and people-to-people exchanges between Vietnam and Indonesia took centre stage at orientations for the 2021-2026 term of the Vietnam – Indonesia Friendship Association.

The Vietnam – Indonesia Friendship Association under the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) on Oct. 27 held the fourth National Congress of Delegates for the 2021-2026 term in a ceremony in Hanoi via both in-person and online formats.

The congress featured the participation of by Denny Abdi, Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam, leaders of the Voice of the Vietnam (VOV) and VUFO, and representatives of relevant ministries, departments, and those of Vietnamese organizations, individuals and businesses having relations with Indonesia.

During the course of the event, delegates discussed and approved a review of the Association’s activities over the past 5 years, while outlining orientations for the 2021-2026 term. It also elected the Central Committee, the Standing Committee, the Inspection Committee and other key leadership positions.

Speaking at the congress, Nguyen Dang Quang, vice chairman of the friendship association said that the friendship between Vietnam and Indonesia was established by President Ho Chi Minh and President Sukarno as well as many previous generations. The hard work of the two leaders has laid a solid foundation and is a strong driving force for promoting and developing the two countries’ relations in all fields of politics, economy, culture, society and people-to-people exchanges.

The traditional and close relationship between Vietnam and Indonesia and their peoples has been continuously consolidated and strongly developed. During the official state visit to Indonesia by President Truong Tan Sang in June 2013, the leaders of the two countries decided to officially upgrade the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Indonesia to strategic partnership. Vietnam becomes Indonesia’s only strategic partner in the region.

The importance of people-to-people exchanges between Vietnam and Indonesia has been demonstrated by the Joint Statement dated June 28, 2013. On the occasion of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s visit to Indonesia in August 2017, the Vietnam – Indonesia Friendship Association and the Indonesia – Vietnam Friendship Association had signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the two association for the 2017 – 2022 period.

According to the report at the congress, in the last term, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, people-to-people diplomacy activities and those of the Vietnam-Indonesia Friendship Association have changed in a suitable, proactive, flexible, creative, and effective manner, combining both traditional methods with specific methods in the new normal. The association has actively contributed to strengthening solidarity, friendship, and cooperation, and expanding exchanges within the new framework of the strategic partnership.

It, cooperated with the Indonesian Embassy in Vietnam as well as the Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia, has promoted its role as a bridge, connecting the two countries’ partners as a means of stepping up cooperation, taking advantage of resources for socio-economic development, and protecting national interests.

The association also regularly sent greetings and greetings to the people of Indonesia on important events; organizing visits, sharing and mobilizing the Vietnamese people to support the Indonesian people when facing natural disasters, storms, floods, calamities.

In the direction of operation for the term 2021-2026, the Vietnam – Indonesia Friendship Association has determined a practical action plan for the coming time focusing on six contents. Specifically:

First, innovating the content and mode of operation in the context of the new situation to continue to improve the efficiency, practicality and depth of the friendship and cooperation relationship with the Indonesian people, contributing to strengthening and promoting the strong development of relations, maintaining a peaceful and stable region.

Secondly, actively deploying and coordinating with the Indonesian association in continuing to promote the implementation of the contents and action programs for the 2017 – 2022 period according to the MoU un the basis of the actual situation and conditions permit. Preparing for the next stage of cooperation in response to Covid-19, together with ASEAN to overcome the pandemic.

Third, stepping up and continuing to promote role as a bridge between the two countries’ partners, especially in economic, trade and tourism cooperation, to soon achieve the goal of USD 10 billion in two-way trade; and increase the possibility of mutual investment, resumption and development of tourism after the pandemic. On the one hand, make the most of external resources to enhance economic development, and at the same time, meet the needs of economic recovery.

Fourth, strengthening contact and coordination with the Indonesian Embassy in Vietnam and Indonesian partners in organizing and conducting seminars, exchange talks in various fields to provide market information and strengthen partnerships, understand each other’s needs, and promote cooperation potentials. Encouraging and promoting exchange channels between Vietnamese cities and provinces that have twin ties with Indonesian localities.

Fifth, coordinating with Vietnamese and Indonesian agencies and organizations, the Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia to organize a series of activities on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2025 and other important events.

Applauding the efforts of the association in tightening the friendship between Vietnam and Indonesia, Indonesian Ambassador Denny Abdi, expressed his respect and appreciation for the association’s dedication and contributions in maintaining and developing the good relations between Indonesia and Vietnam.

The ambassador believes that the fourth congress of the association can bring the relations between Indonesia and Vietnam to a new level. He hoped that the friendship associations in both countries could continue to cooperate and innovate in organizing creative activities in the context of the current new normal.

“I believe that, under the new leadership of the association as well as the full support from us, the Indonesian Embassy in Hanoi, the Indonesian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City and the Indonesia-Vietnam Friendship Association, the bilateral friendship and partnership will further develop towards the common interests and prosperity of the two countries,” the diplomat shared.

Congratulating the congress, Phan Anh Son, VUFO vice president and general secretary, highly appreciated the association’s efforts in coordinating with agencies, departments and branches of the two countries in deploying and organizing a variety of activities, in order to enhance understanding, history and culture between the two peoples.

Son emphasized that the world is experiencing complicated changes, in that context, Vietnam and Indonesia will need to make more important contributions in building a united, self-reliant and prosperous ASEAN Community.The two countries also need to continue to promote, build and develop a strategic cooperative relationship that goes deeper and more effectively. To achieve these goals, cooperation of the people’s organizations of the two countries, is extremely important, he added.

VUFO leaders highly appreciate the contributions of the association and agree with the direction and tasks that it has set for the next term, Son affirmed.

Activities marks 60 years of President Ho Chi Minh’s visit to Indonesia

In her opening remarks, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi highlighted the strategic significance of the meeting between the two Presidents, saying it has created a foundation for the fruitful relationship between Vietnam and Indonesia over the past 60 years.

Vietnam’s Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung said the meeting was beyond the normal diplomatic framework and has become a milestone in the history of both nations.

Also on this occasion, a photo exhibition and screening of films featuring President Ho Chi Minh’s visit to Indonesia and President Soekarno’s visit to Vietnam was held.

The exhibition will then come to Bali, Yogyaktarta and Bandung where the Vietnamese President called at during his visit 60 years ago.

The embassy also organised a workshop with the participation of Vietnamese and Indonesian officials and scholars.

Awards were also presented to winners on a quiz on the visits by the two late Presidents.
