Jakarta – The Indonesia – Việt Nam Friendship Association (IVFA) is honored to host a special gathering to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of Việt Nam–Indonesia Diplomatic Relations under the theme “Việt Nam and Indonesia: A Partnership for Progress and Prosperity.” The event will take place on Monday, 24 February 2025, from 14:00 to 17:00 at the prestigious Ballroom, Raffles Hotel Jakarta, Jl. Prof. DR. Satrio Kav. 3-5, Kuningan, Jakarta 12940.
The gathering aims to deepen bilateral relations and celebrate the growing collaboration between Indonesia and Việt Nam across economic, cultural, educational, and sports sectors. Trade and investment between Indonesia and Vietnam in 2024 grew exponentially, driven by our rapid economic growth and vision towards the future. Total bilateral trade turnover between the two countries for 2024 is estimated to have reached at least US$16 billion, almost a 16% increase. This figure not only puts us on course to meet our US$18 billion total bilateral trade target by 2028, but also indicates reaching it much earlier.
Last year also marked a significant milestone for Vietnam’s investment abroad. In Indonesia, this figure reached $41.81 million. The largest contributors include VinFast’s electric vehicle ecosystem investment in Indonesia, marked by the launch of the factory in Subang in July and the launch of the Xanh SM electric taxi service in December.
The IVFA Special Gathering 2025 will also highlight emerging areas of cooperation, such as artificial intelligence, digital economy, green energy, EV ecosystems, and initiatives under the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP). Additional focus areas include Halal industry development, food security, rice trade agreements, education, and maritime cooperation.
A Legacy of Friendship and Strategic Growth Diplomatic relations between Việt Nam and Indonesia were officially established on December 30, 1955, spearheaded by visionary leaders President Hồ Chí Minh and President Sukarno. This partnership was elevated to a Strategic Partnership in 2013, fostering comprehensive growth across multiple sectors.
Significant milestones include state visits by President Joko Widodo (2018, 2024) and Mr. Nguyễn Phú Trọng, Secretary General of the Communist Party of Việt Nam to Indonesia (2017), as well as Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính’s inaugural overseas trip to Indonesia in 2021. These historic events reflect the enduring commitment to mutual cooperation and friendship.
